The Kansas City Royals have contacted Ivan Rodriguez.
The Royals have made a contract offer for this season to Rodriguez. However, he has not accepted the contract.
Rodriguez has drawn very little interest on the free agent market. The New York Mets and Tampa Bay Rays once were interested in Rodriguez, but made no offer to the catcher.
He played in 44 games last season, his second and final season with the Washington Nationals. He appeared in the fewest amount of games last season in his entire career.
He had a .218 batting average in 44 games. He hit 2 home runs and knocked in 19 RBI’s.
The Royals are looking for an upgrade at the catching position after they lost Salvador Perez to a lateral meniscus tear. He is expected to be out 12-14 weeks with a likely return in June.
He would be an upgrade over expected back ups Manny Pina, Max Ramirez, and Brayan Perez.
