Lotus is no longer partnered with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and Bryan Herta Autosport in the IndyCar Series.
Lotus ended their engine leasing agreement with both teams, effective immediately. But Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will be allowed to use the engine for this weekend’s race in Sao Paulo, Brazil, before switching.
Oriol Servia will drive the No. 22 car for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing this weekend. Bryan Herta Autosport will not be competing this weekend, as they focus their efforts on the Indianapolis 500 in a couple of weeks.
“Our focus is on the Brazil race, and we are still a part of the Lotus team,” said Dreyer & Reinbold Racing co-owner Dennis Reinbold, whose team entered into the agreement with Lotus in November. “We are excited to go down there. We wish Lotus all of the best going forward. We are in the midst of finalizing our future plans, and we are talking to the series to conclude that process.”
Alex Tagliani will race the 98 car for Herta Autosport at the Indy 500. IndyCar will work with the two teams with Chevroley and Honda engines on May 7th test session at Texas Motor Speedway.
HVM Racing’s Simona de Silvestro and Dragon Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais and Katherine Legge will continue to use Lotus engines this season.
“IndyCar is committed to ensuring that our teams and manufacturers have a platform to remain competitive,” IndyCar chief executive officer Randy Bernard said. “We support Lotus’ decision and will assist Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and Bryan Herta Autosport in securing engine support for the remainder of the season.”
