The Seattle Mariners will be without reliever George Sherrill for the rest of the season.

Sherrill will be undergoing Tommy John surgery in the coming days. The operation is expected to take place on his left pitching elbow on Friday in Los Angeles.

He was placed on the disabled list after playing in the Mariners first few games in Japan. He pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 4 earned runs in 2 games.

This was Sherrill’s first season in Seattle. He signed with the team in December for $1.1 million and will be a free agent after the season.

He will be replaced by Charlie Furbush and Lucas Luetke for the short time. The Mariners will look for a trade to find a long-term replacement.
