If the NHL season does resume, the Ottawa Senators could be without defenseman Jared Cowen for the season.
Cowen is expected to undergo hip surgery this weekend. He will have the procedure to repair a small tear in his labrum on Saturday morning in New York.
His agent Rick Valette believes Cowen will miss the rest of the season once the procedure is done. He played in his first full NHL season last year, scoring five goals and posting 17 points in 82 games.
With the lockout, he has been playing for the Binghamton Senators in the American Hockey League. He was selected with the ninth overall pick by the Senators in 2009.
