The Toronto Blue Jays have finalized their two-year contract with free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera.
Cabrera comes to the Blue Jays from the San Francisco Giants. It appeared like he was going to receive a huge payday in free agency until August came.
In August, he was suspended 50 games for taking an illegal drug under their substance abuse policy. He did not return for the playoffs when the Giants won the World Series.
Being left on the roster, it is likely that he will not receive a World Series ring.
Now, after being busted, it is anyone’s guess as to how good he will be without the advantage of a performance-enhancer.
He is expected to start in left field this upcoming season for the Blue Jays. He is also expected to bat second in the lineup.
