The New York Jets this season had huge expectations.
Yet, the team struggled and fired their general manager and offensive coordinator at the end of the season. And now, the Jets are about to make some roster changes.
The Jets are expected to release linebacker Calvin Pace, linebacker Bart Scott, offensive tackle Jason Smith and safety Eric Smith in February. The Jets, even with these cuts, will have little cap space with 10 starters under contract.
Pace has struggled the past three seasons with the Jets after signing with them as a free agent from the Arizona Cardinals. The Jets are expected to save $8.56 million by cutting Pace.
The Jets will save $7.15 million by releasing Scott and an additional $12 million by releasing Jason Smith. They will save $3 million by releasing Eric Smith. All four will count for $4.5 million of dead money against the salary cap.
