Just hours after the New York Yankees struck a deal with the Baltimore Orioles to acquire Zach Britton to improve their bullpen, the Boston Red Sox wasted no time in making a deal. They acquired right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi in a trade on Wednesday morning with the Tampa Bay Rays.

In exchange, the Rays will be receiving minor-league left-handed pitcher Jalen Beeks.

The 28-year-old Eovaldi has made 10 starts for the Rays this season. He’s 3-4 with a 4.26 ERA through 57 innings.

He has had no-hit bids going through six innings in three of his 10 starts. Earlier this month on July 8th against the New York Mets at Citi Field, he retired the first 18 batters.

He most recently pitched last Friday against the Miami Marlins. He allowed just one run in six innings with eight strikeouts and zero walks.

Eovaldi was previously selected buck the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 11th-round of the 2008 MLB Draft. This will be his fifth MLB team, previously playing for the Dodgers, Marlins, Yankees, and the Rays.

He is in his first season back after missing the 2017 season after Tommy John surgery on August 19th, 2016. In 144 MLB appearances, including 137 starts, he is 41-50 with a 4.22 ERA.

Beeks, 25, has made two appearances with the Red Sox this season, including one start. He’s allowed nine runs and 11 hits in just 6 1/3 innings with a 12.79 ERA.
