RedHawks become Bowl eligible, defeat Cardinals

The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks defeated the Ball State Cardinals on Tuesday night. The RedHawks won 42-21 over the Cardinals at Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio in the Red Bird Rivalry.

The RedHawks improved to 6-6 to become Bowl eligible. They are now 6-2 in the Mid-American Conference East Division.

Miami (Ohio) has now won three straight games. They finish the regular season, trailing the Buffalo Bulls, who had a 9-2 mark in the East Division.

The Cardinals fell to 4-8 on the season. They also fell to 3-5 in the Mid-American Conference West Division.

Only the Central Michigan Chippewas had a worst record in the West Division. They are 0-7 in conference play and 1-10 overall.

Ball State ends their season with losses in four of its last five games. The only win came against the Western Michigan Broncos.

RedHawks quarterback Gus Ragland went 11 of 16 for 159 yards. He also had a touchdown and an interception.

Alonzo Smith had 18 carries for 207 yards and three touchdowns. Jaylon Bester had seven carries for 65 yards. Maurice Thomas had 11 carries for 41 yards. Kenny Young had five carries for 38 yards.

Luke Mayock had two receptions for 43 yards. Jack Sorenson had three receptions for 36 yards. Quentin Hardy had two receptions for 34 yards. Andrew Horner had two receptions for 29 yards. Dominique Robinson had a four-yard touchdown reception.

Cardinals quarterback Drew Plitt went 17 of 29 for 175 yards. He also had a touchdown and two interceptions.

Malik Dunner had seven carries for 58 yards. Plitt had 13 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown. Justin Hall had three carries for 28 yards and a touchdown. James Gilbert had eight carries for 28 yards.

Riley Miller had five receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. Dunner had four receptions for 34 yards. Hall had three receptions for 33 yards. Kyle Schrank had three receptions for 23 yards.

Miami (Ohio) scored 21 points in the second-half. Ragland scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown. Smith also scored on a 47-yard rushing touchdown.

Smith also scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown.

The game was tied at 21 all at halftime. Ragland hit Robinson for a four-yard touchdown reception. Smith scored on a 56-yard rushing touchdown.

Ragland scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Cardinals’ Hall scored on a 22-yard rushing touchdown. Plitt scored on a nine-yard rushing touchdown.

Plitt hit Miller for a 22-yard touchdown reception.
