Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters has been suspended by the team once again. Just games into the season, he has suspended for the same reason.
Waiters was suspended by the Heat on Sunday for “conduct detrimental to the team.” He also missed the season-opener because of that, as well.
He allegedly eat a THC edible gummy that was reportedly given to him by one of his teammates. However, Waiters is not snitching on his teammate, who gave it to him.
The incident happened as the team was leaving Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday. As the team was boarding their charter flight, he reportedly received the edible from the teammate.
He had a medical emergency in the air and once the plane landed in Los Angeles, California, he woke up and had a seizure.
Waiters has not played for the Heat this season. In addition, with this 10-game suspension, he loses out on $1.2 million in bonuses that he had in his contract.
The edible THC that was given to him is illegal by the league. Whoever gave it to him — once it is determined who that individual is — will also more than likely will be suspended, as well.
The 27-year-old Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native has been disgruntled about his role, especially the team’s belief that he is better off the bench than as a starter.
He played in 44 games, including 28 games, during the 2018-19 season. Waiters averaged 12 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.2 blocks in 25.9 minutes per game.
Waiters has been with the Heat since the 2016-17 season. During his tenure with the team, he has made 120 appearances, including a career-best 101 starts.
