At one point this season, the Los Angeles Rams were in danger of missing the playoffs when the team was in a slump. However, since that time, the franchise has gone 5-2 in their last seven games.
The Rams defeated the Seattle Seahawks, 28-12, on Sunday night at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California.
With the win, the Rams improved to 8-5 on the season. The Seahawks fell to 10-3 on the season.
In addition, this was Seattle’s first road loss of the season. And it ended their five-game win streak.
Rams quarterback Jared Goff went 22 of 31 for 293 yards. He also had two touchdown passes and two interceptions.
According to ESPN’s Stats & Information, Goff now has the second most touchdown passes for a Rams player in his first four seasons with the franchise. He now has 80 touchdown passes, including the two on Sunday Night Football.
Only Kurt Warner has more, as he had 98 touchdown passes during the “Greatest Show on Turf” era. He did not throw a touchdown until his second season when he had 98 touchdown passes in three seasons.
Todd Gurley II had 23 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Higbee had seven receptions for 116 yards.
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson went 22 of 36 for 245 yards. He also had one touchdown pass.
Chris Carson had 15 carries for 76 yards. D.K. Metcalf had six receptions for 78 yards.
Quandre Diggs — who was acquired by the team in a trade with the Detroit Lions before the trade deadline — became the third player to have an interception on consecutive defensive drives.
He joins Erik Harris and Quinton Dunbar to accomplish this feat. Plus, he is the first Seahawks player to have three interceptions in his first four games with the franchise since Earl Thomas in 2010.
Seahawks outscored the Rams 9-7 in the second half. Diggs scored on a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown. However, following the score, Jason Myers missed the extra point.
Myers also made a 34-yard field goal.
Gurley II scored on a seven-yard rushing touchdown for the Rams.
The Rams led 21-3 at halftime. Malcolm Brown scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown. Goff hit Robert Woods for a two-yard touchdown reception.
Goff also hit Cooper Kupp for a 10-yard touchdown reception.
“Just playing our game, being ourselves, being able to start fast, get in our rhythm,” Woods told NBC after the game. “We had a good performance last time with them [in a loss in Seattle in October]. This time we were able to finish our drives, score and play all four quarters.”
Seahawks’ Myers also made a 39-yard field goal.
“This was a rough night for the Seahawks tonight,” Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said at his postgame news conference. “We did not do what we had planned to do at all. I thought it was a really good night for the Rams.”
