“We are beyond a loss of words and don’t even know what to say other then please cherish everyday you have with family and friends,” Drown said in a Facebook post. “We are in such sorrow of the loss of our dear friend and tire guy Steve. Unfortunately, he has passed away.

“Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”

On Saturday, Drown posted that Hershberger was in the ICU. On Friday, the person behind the account, said that Hershberger had been sick for the last several days.

“After testing negative for COVID-19 twice, he underwent more test,” the account said. “This week hasn’t been our week. We are asking our racing community and friends and family to keep our tire guy in your thoughts and prayers.

“Steve has been diagnosed with liver and lung cancer. 2020 hasn’t been good for any of us; however, Steve is facing this alone, as there are no family or visitors allowed in the hospitals at this time. Please keep him and his family (two boys) in your prayers.”

He is survived by Leroy and Ryan, his two sons.

A GoFundMe has been established to help pay for Hershberger’s expenses. As of this post, it has $3,125 of its $25,000 goal.
