Bubba Wallace has made the decision to leave Richard Petty Motorsports. However, the move will not come until the end of the season.
Wallace was scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season. He has had an ownership stake in RPM since the 2016 season.
The team was willing to offer him an increased ownership stake to re-sign with the team. However, he has decided to find a ride elsewhere.

Chip Ganassi Racing reportedly had an offer on the table for Wallace this summer. The offer is reportedly for him to driver the No. 42 car.
Kyle Larson began the season as the driver of the No. 42 car. However, after using an n-word in a video game on Easter Sunday, he lost his job and has been dominating Sprint Car races ever since.
Matt Kenseth was hired by Chip Ganassi Racing to finish the season.
“This was not an easy decision as I have nothing but the utmost respect for Richard Petty and his family, but I believe it’s time for someone else to take over the reins of the No. 43,” Wallace said in a statement on social media. “Thank you to the King and everyone at Richard Petty Motorsports for giving me the opportunity to start my Cup Series career. I’ve grown so much as a driver and as a person since joining them. We’ve got none more races together, and I hope we can finish the 2020 season on a high note.”
Wallace has competed in 103 races for Richard Petty Motorsports. He has finished in the Top 5 just three-times in his career.
His best finish was at the 2018 Daytona 500 when he finished second to Austin Dillon. He also has one third-place finish and a fifth-place finish at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona this season.

“Earlier this morning, Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr., informed Richard Petty Motorsports he will not be returning for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) season,” Richard Petty Motorsports said in a statement. “We will complete the season with Wallace behind the wheel of the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE. We look forward to the next chapter in the making for the iconic No. 43 team. We will announce our new driver in the near future.”
He is the only black driver in NASCAR. This was an incident earlier this year that made national headlines when there was a noose found in his Talladega stall.
The Mobile, Alabama native has not won in the Xfinity Series or the Cup Series. That is nearly 200 races in the marquee series and the secondary series.
Wallace last won a NASCAR race in 2017 when he won his lone appearance that season in the Truck Series. He has six career wins in the Truck Series.
