The Washington Redskins plan on using Kirk Cousins as trade bait down the road.

The Redskins also drafted Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 overall pick, and plan on Griffin III to be the starter from the start of the season. Cousins will likely be the third-string quarterback and be mentored to be traded later.

The Redskins plan is to trade Cousins a few years from now for draft picks. The plan is to develop Cousins’ arm and bulk up while being on the bench.

The Redskins hope that Cousins could bring back a second-round pick in a few years.
