The Washington Nationals have made a post-deadline trade.
The Nats acquired catcher Kurt Suzuki and cash considerations from the Oakland Athletics. In exchange, the Athletics picked up catcher David Freitas.
Suzuki has spent the past six years with the Athletics. In his career there, he hit 57 home runs, 302 runs, and a 134 doubles in 703 games.
This season, he is struggling with a .218 batting average. He had 15 doubles, one home run, and 18 RBI’s in 75 games.
Freitas, a former 15th round pick by the Nationals in 2010, has never played in the majors. He is hitting .271 with 22 doubles, five home runs, and 46 RBI’s in 78 games this season at Double-A Potomac.
