When the Jaguars take the field and their defense goes on the field, it would be the first time a rookie defensive end has started on opening day in team history. Andre Branch, their 2012 second round pick, has earned a starting position on the defensive line.

He started all four preseason games. In those games, he had 1.5 sacks with 11 tackles and a forced fumble.

“I think for being a rookie and being thrown right into this starting lineup like that, I think he’s done really well. I think he’s going to just keep getting better,” said Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey.
