Carpenter has been hampered by neck and shoulder injuries. He pitched a 95-pitch simulated game on Saturday.

Now, the former Cardinals ace is expected to make his debut on Friday against the Chicago Cubs. He has missed almost all of the season with a thoracic outlet syndrome.

He has been cleared to return after pitching the simulated game on Saturday. He is expected to make two starts in the regular season.
