The Boston Red Sox have signed former Atlanta Braves player David Ross to a two-year deal.
The contract is pending a physical, which is expected to take in the next several days. He is expected to make $6.2 million over the next two years with the Red Sox.
He is widely considered the best back up catcher in the game, and has backed up Braves catcher Brian McCann. Last season, the 35-year-old had a .256 batting average with 9 home runs in 196 plate appearances.
He is expected to receive more playing time in Boston, but will continue to be the back up behind Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who is expected to continue to be the starter.
