The Atlanta Falcons have decided to release veteran left defensive end Ray Edwards.
Edwards signed a five-year, $27.5 million deal before the 2011 season. He did not even last two complete seasons with the Falcons.
He came to the Falcons after 16.5 sacks with the Minnesota Vikings during the 2009-10 season. A couple of weeks ago, he was replaced in the starting lineup after the week 7 Bye.
He had just 9 tackles and no sacks in 9 games this season after having just 3.5 sacks last season. Kroy Biermann has taken Edwards’ spot.
He could find work in the coming days on a much lighter contract.
