“The Battle of Trenton” Indoor Auto Race returned to the Sun National Bank Center on Friday evening. The show returned to Trenton following the inaugural event this past February.

This show will conclude tonight for the final show of “The Battle of Trenton.” This show will start at 7 pm and will feature the same drivers.

In the second of the Twin 20’s, Ted Christopher won the 20 lap feature and received $1,000. He was also the pole sitter for the event, as well.

With four laps to go, Lou Cicconi Jr. clipped another driver’s wheels and was eliminated from action. Seconds later, Aaron Bartemy crashed into the wall, which caused a delay.

One lap prior, Matt Roselli hit the tires and had to fall to the back of the field. With 8 laps to go, Tim Backwater also spun out in between Turn 3 and 4 after hitting the tires.

Just 9 laps into this feature, there was a scary moment. Steve Carrig was hit by a fellow competitor and went up and over the barriers in Turn 3, sending track officials and first responders to his aid.

After getting out of the vehicle, he said he was fine during a track-side interview. But he would leave the track talking to medical personnel.

Carrig would not return, nor would the other car that hit him sent him flying. The stands, where he hit after landing, appeared to be bent, according to a photographer, who looked at the scene afterwards.

Four laps into the feature, Neal Williams left the field with a problem with his car.

The Champ Cars also had a 20-lap feature; however, they only had one on the evening instead of two like the TQ Midgets. In this race, Chris Daley received the $1,000 price with his win.

With three laps left, AJ DeSantis lost his tire in another scary moment, as his tire went flying towards the first responders. Thankfully, they were not hit by the tire, which would have been bad.

DeSantis never returned to the track after the tire came off. He’s expected to be back for Saturday’s competition, though.

With 9 laps into this feature, Joseph Pacovich pun out following a run into the tires, and had to move to the back of the field. Just two laps into the race, Stephen Beattie also spun out.

The first of the Twin 20’s saw a repeat of February, as Erik Rudolph cashed in to win the 1,000 check. Rudolph will be looking for a three-peat in his final competition in Trenton in 2014 in a few hours.

With five laps to go, a car had problems and left the racing field. Andrew Krause and Andrew Nye hit each other with six laps to go, and both fell to the back of the field.

Ryan Tidman, had heavy smoke coming from his vehicle with 8 laps in, and did not finish. On the same lap, Brandon Azzalina spun out after loosing grip on the surface.

Mark Rogers also spun out in the 7th lap, but was able to recover.

Rudolph was able to overcome Joey Payne on the 6th lap, and never looked back. He beat Payne on the re-start following a caution.

Earlier, Rudolph got past Payne, but the track officials said that it did not count, as they said it happened after the caution.
