NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. has picked up his first career win in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. Truex Jr. won at his home track on Monday at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware.

Truex Jr., a New Jersey native, drove the Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats car for Dale Earnhardt Inc. into Victory Lane. He dominated the race, as he led 216 of the 400 laps in the First State.

This is Truex Jr.’s second full season in the sport’s highest level after competing in just nine races during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

Truex Jr. picked up his first win since he won the Aaron’s 312 on Saturday, April 29th, 2006, at Talladega Superspeedway, in Talladega, Alabama. When Truex Jr. won this race, it was in NASCAR’s Busch Series, which is their second tier.

Before this race in Dover, Truex Jr. had just one race, where he finished in the Top 10. He had an eighth-place finish at the Kobalt Tools 500 on Sunday, March 18th, 2007, at Atlanta Motor Speedway, in Hampton, Georgia.

Alltel-sponsored driver Ryan Newman finished in second place. Office Depot-sponsored driver Carl Edwards finished in third place.

Owner Jack Roush was the only owner with two drivers in the Top 5. He had Edwards, who finished third, and DeWalt driver Matt Kenseth, who finished fifth.

Manufacturers Chevrolet and Ford had two cars in the Top 5. Edwards and Kenseth drive Fords. Truex Jr. and FedEx Kinko’s driver Denny Hamlin are Toyota drivers.
