The Chicago Bulls have appointed Jim Boylan as the interim coach. He replaces Scott Skiles, who was fired on Christmas Eve.
Boylan will reportedly serve as the interim coach for at least through the remainder of the 2007-08 season. Once the season is over, the franchise will then decide whether to retain Boylan or go in a different direction with a new coach.

When Skiles was fired, the Bulls had a 9-16 record.

“I feel comfortable giving (Boylan) the interim head coaching position,” said John Paxon, the team’s executive vice president of basketball operations. “Jim has paid his dues as an assistant coach and has his own ideas on the way he wants us to play. Many top assistants never get the chance to be a head coach in the NBA and Jim has assured me he will provide the necessary energy and commitment this position requires.”
The 52-year-old Boylan was in his fourth season as an assistant coach before the promotion. Boylan previously served as an assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks during the 2003-04 season.
He also served as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns in 2001-02.
The Jersey City, New Jersey native also served as an assistant coach with the Vancouver Grizzlies from 1997 through 2001. He was a scout for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 1992 through 1997.
