The Texas A&M University officials have had to issue an apology for ‘inappropriate and offensive’ comments regarding long-time Penn State Nittany Lions head football coach Joe Paterno. The comments were made on Thursday at an A&M pep rally.

At the San Antonio Riverwalk, one of the Aggies’ “yell leaders” said that Paterno is “on his deathbed.” In addition, the same “yell leader” also said, “Somebody needs to find him a casket.”

The comments from that “yell leader” caused people to boo the comments. There were people from both schools at the rally, and reportedly, both sides booed the comments.

“I didn’t hear any of that,” Paterno said at a Friday news conference. “I think everybody’s got to take things with a grain of salt. It’s some young guy up there, and he’s trying to be funny. Maybe he’s accurate, I don’t know.”

Paterno turned 81 years old last week. He is in his 42nd season as the Nittany Lions head coach.

The Aggies and the Nittany Lions are playing in a Bowl game this weekend. The two schools will meet in the Alamo Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

The stadium holds 65,000 people. The Bowl game is a sell-out.

The Nittany Lions are bringing a 9-4 record into the Alamo Bowl battle with the Aggies. Texas A&M is bringing a 6-6 mark into the game.

Penn State is looking to secure their third straight Bowl victory. They won the Outback Bowl after the 2006 regular season.

And, at the end of the 2005 season, the Nittany Lions won the Orange Bowl.

At the same time, the Aggies are coming into this Bowl game on a two-game losing streak in the postseason. They lost the Holiday Bowl at the end of the 2006 season.

After the 2004 season, the team lost in the Cotton Bowl.
