The Backlash pay-per-view took place at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. The show began with Kofi Kingston defeating Dolph Ziggler in a single’s match on the pre-show.

Then, on the main card, Christian became the new ECW Championship when he defeated Jack Swagger. Chris Jericho then defeated Ricky Steamboat, before Kane defeated CM Punk next.

In an “I Quit” match, Jeff Hardy defeated his brother Matt Hardy. In a short-lived match for “Miss WrestleMania,” Santina Marella defeated Beth Phoenix, who also had Rosa Mendes in her corner.

The Legacy (Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Ted DiBiase Jr.) defeated Triple H, Batista and Shane McMahon. Since Triple H lost in the match, Orton received the belt with The Legacy’s

Edge became the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion when he defeated John Cena in a Last Man Standing match.
