TCSR: favorite motto

RY: “Hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies.”

TCSR: superstitions before games

RY: “I always use the same clubs on the range before I hit the links.”

TCSR: impact sports has had in your life

RY: “I think sports have helped me become a better person, both socially and competitively. I’ve met a lot of friends playing golf that I wouldn’t have met otherwise and we are all competitive and yet we can still shake hands when we’re done and have a conversation after wards.”

TCSR: what keeps you motivated in sports

RY: “I think, especially in the sport of Golf, there is always something to work on. I hear it all the time when I watch guys, like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson shot a 66, they always have something else they feel they can improve on. I feel the same way and I’m nowhere near as good as those 2 are.”

TCSR: a failure that you experienced which has made you a better athlete today

RY: “My senior year in high school, I was in a match against a player from a local high school in Queens (Holy Cross), I won the first 4 holes and we tied the match. I was so angry at myself for tying him when I had it in my hand. I learned that you’ve got to have that killer-instinct and sort of a go-for-broke kind of attitude.”

TCSR: favorite sports movie

RY: “Hoosiers.”

TCSR: your overall experience, both academically and athletically, at your high school

RY: “I went to an all boy’s high school with less than 200 students; I loved every second of it. Academically, I chose it, because I didn’t want to be a number in such a large school, wanted to go where the teachers knew my name, even if I didn’t have them in class. Athletically, we were never the best in golf, but we always tried our best and we had a ton of fun doing so. I found 2 of my best friends in that high school.”

TCSR: your overall experience, both academically and athletically, at your college

RY: “Same reasons I attended my high school, I didn’t want to be lost at such a large school. Athletically, it’s everything I could have hoped for. I wouldn’t change anything I’ve done so far. From the people I’ve met, to some of the great friendships I’ve forged here…I wouldn’t change it at all.”

TCSR: why did you choose your college

RY: “I wanted to go away for school, yet still be close by and its only about an hour and a half mass transit commute back to my home and the fact I received a golf scholarship helps as well!”

TCSR: why did you selected your sport

RY: “Because it’s the only sport where you call penalties on yourself and I think this quote from the late Payne Stewart helps as well: ‘But in the end, it’s still a game of golf, and if at the end of the day, you can’t shake hands with your opponents and still be friends, then you’ve missed the point.’ ”

TCSR: favorite athlete of all-time in your sports

RY: “Gotta go with Tiger Woods on this one.”

TCSR: a sport you wish you were great at others than the one’s you competed in throughout your life

RY: “Football.”

TCSR: favorite college team

RY: “Penn State Nittany Lions.”

TCSR: favorite pro team

RY: “The New York Football Giants and the New York Mets.”

TCSR: favorite athlete outside your sport that you like to support or watch

RY: “Eli Manning.”

TCSR: what should others know about you that most don’t [fun fact]

RY: “I’m a complete jokester and most of the time, you should never take me seriously. Unless I’m playing golf or talking about the Giants!”

TCSR: future goals after college

RY: “After college, I plan to join the United States Air Force as an officer and then after that, it’s anybody’s guess!”
