“It was our first game and we couldn’t ask for anything more,” said Hamilton West Side and Great Lakes manager Ken Coomer. “(Jarod) Morrison got into a little trouble – and defensively, there are some things we could work on. But overall, we had a good game”

With the win, Ohio will face Georgia in the winner’s bracket. On the other hand, New Jersey will have to face Hawai’i in the loser’s bracket.

Whoever loses between New Jersey and Hawai’i will be eliminated from the tournament.

“We had this same thing happen in district play, sectionals, state, as well as the regionals,” said Toms River and Mid-Atlantic manager Paul Deceglie. “We lost the first game in each one of them, then poured it on to be able to come back. I’m not going to say that will be the case here, because the teams here are very good teams. But all and all, I’m very proud of my team. They went out there and tried their hardest. It’s another day tomorrow.”

Ohio jumped on New Jersey with eight runs in the first inning. They also had four runs in the fourth inning.

The team also had one run in the second inning and an additional run in the fifth inning. Their final two runs came in the sixth inning.

Morrison hit a home run. Jacob Jones also hit two home runs for Ohio.

Morrison received the win. New Jersey pitcher Joey Rose received the loss.

New Jersey had six runs in the first two innings.

“They do have that mindset that they do battle back,” said Toms River and Mid-Atlantic manager Deceglie. “It was evident in the first two innings when we were able to score 6 runs. It didn’t go well with our pitchers. We weren’t hitting our marks. We thought they were strikes and the umpire said they weren’t strikes – it’s just the way it goes. This is a big stage for 12-year-old boys at any level, so maybe that played a part in it.

“But the bottom line is that the kids are having fun. We are happy that we are here. We’re going to be here and we’re going to try to pull off a win.”
