The Philadelphia Phillies will win at least one postseason award. The National League East Champs will see their ace get this award.

As expected, according to a source, Roy Halladay will win the National League Cy Young Award. Halladay will beat out Colorado Rockies ace Ubaldo Jimenez for the award.

This will also snap a streak of two Cy Young Awards in a row by San Francisco Giants ace Tim Lincecum. This will mark the second time in Halladay’s career that he has won a Cy Young Award.

He previously won a Cy Young award in the American League. He won the 2003 AL Cy Young with a 22-7 record and a 3.25 ERA in 266.0 innings.

Halladay is winning the award in his first year in Philadelphia. Steve Carlton is the only other Phillies pitcher to also do this in 1972.

Steve Bedrosian was the last Phillies pitcher to receive the National League Cy Young Award. He had a 5-3 record with 40 saves and a 2.83 ERA in the 1987 season.

However, the last Phillies starter to win the award was in 1983. John Denny won the award in 1983.

He had a 19-6 record with a 2.37 ERA.

The Phillies have 6 career Cy Young winners in the history of the team. Carlton has 4 Cy Young Awards during his 15-year career with the Phillies.

He won the award in 1972, 1977, 1980, and 1982. Halladay would make it seven, and he will be the first Phillies 20-game winner to win the Cy Young since Carlton.

Carlton won 23 games in 1977 and 1982, 24 games in 1980, and 27 games in 1972, his 4 Cy Young seasons. Carlton was the first pitcher to win four Cy Young Awards.

Greg Maddux, Roger Clemens, and Randy Johnson were later able accomplish this feat, as well.

Yet, Halladay will be the first pitcher since the 2005 season to accomplish the feat of being a 20-game winner and Cy Young winner in the same season. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter went 21-5 that season, before winning the Cy Young award.

He won his 21st game of the season on Monday night. The win against the Washington Nationals helped the Phillies clinch the National League East and home field advance throughout.

He will not pitch again this regular season, as Kyle Kendrick is already scheduled to take Halladay’s spot tonight in Atlanta. He will be asked to rest his arm for the next few days, with the first-round of the playoffs starting in a week.

The playoffs start on October 6th. Halladay will be making his first playoff appearance, as the ace of the staff.

Roy Oswalt is expected to be the No. 2 pitcher for the Phillies, and Cole Hamels will be the No. 3 pitcher in the first round.

Halladay will end the regular season with 21-10 mark. He has struck out 219 batters, while walking 30 batters with a 2.44 ERA.

He also has a 1.04 whip. And is the first Phillies 20-game winner since Carlton.

Halladay has two more wins than Jimenez. Jimenez is 19-8 on the season for the Rockies, who will not make the playoffs this season.

He has struck out 204 batters, while walking 90 batters with a 2.99 ERA. He also has a 1.17 whip.

Both Jimenez and Halladay have a no-hitter and a perfect game, respectively, in this season. Jimenez pitched the first no-hitter in Rockies history against the Atlanta Braves on April 17th, 2010.

On May 29th, 2010, Halladay pitched the 20th perfect game in Major League Baseball history against the Florida Marlins in a 1-0 win in Florida.

Halladay could win many more Cy Young awards in Philadelphia. He is signed through the 2013 season with a $20 million option for 2014.

And was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays for prospects Kyle Drabek, Michael Taylor, and Travis D’Arnaud last December.
