Alex Smith is finally getting a chance to leave the Bay Area.

The free agent quarterback, formerly with the San Francisco 49ers, finally has a chance to leave the team via free agency. It is the first time in his young career that he’s had a chance to test free agency.

The 49ers hold exclusive rights to Smith until March 3rd. Then, after March 3rd, Smith can talk with any team as a free agency.

The 49ers are not expected to offer Smith a contract by March 3rd.
