Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk said that he has been communicating with Richards about the potential trade interest.
“I am fine,” Richards said in a text message to the Dallas Morning News. “Been through it before. I understand Joe.”
Richards will become a free agent at the end of the season. At this time, it is believed that he will not return to the Stars — even if he is not moved before the trade deadline.

Due to the Stars ownership group being up in the air as they would like to sell the team, the franchise cannot spend a lot of money on salaries. This has put the team in a very tough spot with Richards and other players on their roster.
This season, he has appeared in 56 games with the Stars. He had scored 24 goals thus far.
In addition, he has had 39 assists for 63 points. He also had three game-winning goals.
