The Minnesota Wild are interested in a player from North of the Border. The Wild are interested in Edmonton Oilers’ Dustin Penner.

Wild GM Chuck Fletcher wants to acquire a top-six forward — and believes that Penner would be a good fit for his team. Minnesota is without Mikko Koivu, who is presently sidelined with an injury.

In order for the Wild to have a chance to acquire Penner, the franchise will have to trade away some cap space to fit his salary under their cap. It is believed that the Oilers would like a first-round draft pick and a prospect in return for Penner.

Through 60 games this season, he has 21 goals and 17 assists for 38 points. He also has a -11 +/- and 45 PIM.

He has 14 even strength goals. In addition, he has six power play goals and one short-handed goals. Penner also scored three game-winning goals.

He has attempted 132 shots on the season in 1,492 shifts. He has had 1,108 minutes and 53 seconds of total ice time.

In his last game against the Colorado Avalanche in a win, he had a goal for one point. He also had 28 shifts in 17 minutes and 54 seconds of ice time.

Penner and his Oilers teammates return to the ice on Friday against the St. Louis Blues.
