The San Francisco Giants are about to have the most expensive reliever.

Barry Zito is expected to return off the disabled list on Tuesday. He is expected to make a spot start once he returns from the disabled list. His spot start is expected to be on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs.

But he will no longer have a permanent position within the starting rotation. Zito will have a spot as a long reliever and a left-handed specialist out of the Giants bullpen.

Zito is making $18.5 million this year.

Zito hasn’t pitched for the Giants since April 16th. He has been hampered by a sprained right foot.

Since being on the disabled list, Ryan Vogelsong has taken Zito’s spot in the rotation. Vogelsong has a 1.86 ERA in 72 2/3 innings this season.
