Brandon Kirsch, a quarterback with the Philadelphia Soul in the Arena Football League, recently took time to do a Question and Answer session with The Capital Sports Report. His interview is below:
TCSR: Could you talk about playing football at Cedar Crest High School?
BK: “That was a great time. I was there from 1998 to 2002. I’m still friends with many of those guys that went there during that time.”
TCSR: What did it mean to you to be the league MVP for football?
BK: “It was very special. I was excited about that.”
TCSR: Why did you choose to attend Purdue?
BK: “I chose to go there, because Drew Brees was there and was throwing the ball around 70 times a game. I thought it was the perfect place for me to be.”
TCSR: Could you talk about playing for now-retired Purdue football coach Joe Tiller?
BK: “Joe was a great coach. It was definitely enjoyable playing for him.”
TCSR: Could you talk about being teammates with quarterbacks Kyle Orton and Curtis Painter?
BK: “Well, they are great guys. I’m still in contact with those guys. I had a lot of fun with those guys.”
TCSR: Why did you leave Purdue before your senior year?
BK: “I thought I wasn’t getting a fair shake. I thought I wasn’t getting the opportunity to be a full-time starter. I also had a medical operation on my shoulder, which they requested me to help out Kyle, and red-shirt, so I wanted to see what my options were.”
TCSR: After leaving Purdue early, you signed with the Colorado Crush, formerly with the Arena Football League. Could you talk about playing for them?
BK: “It was a great opportunity. The Rush actually had purchased my contract from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Pioneers). I was able to make the team and learn from that experience.”
TCSR: After a long hiatus, you signed with the Philadelphia Soul after the Soul traded away Justin Allgood. Could you talk about why you decided to return to this game after being away for 3 years?
BK: “It’s been a long time since I last played in the Arena Football League, but I felt like it was time to come back. I have a kid and was working in Sales, but it’s good to be back.”
