Quarterback Carson Palmer is now no longer a member of the Cincinnati Bengals, as the team traded him to the Oakland Raiders. Palmer made a strong stance of never playing for the Bengals again, which forced the team.

The Raiders gave up a first-round pick to get the disgruntled signal-caller. The Bengals also get a second pick in 2013 that could become a first-round pick depending on different incentives that Palmer must reach.

With Palmer now out of the picture, the team moves forward with its future. They’re expected to start second-round pick Andy Dalton from Texas Christian University.

Palmer was holding the team hostage in a way, as he wouldn’t play for them until he was traded. The Raiders are taking a gamble on him, as he’s coming to their team with a losing record overall.

The Raiders are not that much better, as they have been horrible since they lost the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003.

With the Bengals, he appeared in 97 games in seven years. The team went 46-51 during his tenure there.

He also was 2,204 of 3,217 for 22,694 yards with 154 touchdowns for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NFL draft. He also had 100 interceptions, while having a 86.9 QB Rating.

Palmer and Raiders head coach Hue Jackson already know each other. Jackson was previously an assistant coach in Cincinnati.

Palmer is expected to compete for the Raiders starting job within the coming weeks. Kyle Boller is expected to start this week.

Once Palmer takes over the reins, don’t expect any deep balls to the young wide receivers. Palmer has not averaged 6.8 yards per pass attempt since 2007.

The Raiders needed a quarterback after Jason Campbell broke his collarbone in Sunday’s game. Back-up Boller finished the game.

Campbell underwent surgery on Monday and is out for at least 6 weeks. On the same day, former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor was activated by the team from the suspended list.

The Raiders also reached out to former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard on Monday. But he told the team that he was going to undergo surgery and be unavailable to play for them.
