The Houston Texans have put Matt Schaub on injured reserve. In a corresponding move, the Texans have agreed to terms with free agent quarterback Kellen Clemens.

On November 13th, Schaub hurt his foot in the Texna win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since the injury, he has met with several doctors to determine that he will need season-ending surgery on his Lisfranc injury.

“We held out hope and he went down there and he met with the doctor this morning very early,” said Texans head coach Gary Kubiak. “I hurt for him, because he was having a Pro Bowl season. But he willbe back and he will play at a high level for a very long time.”

Clemens will back up newly-inserted starter Matt Leinart. Clemens tried out In from of the tem personnel on Monday, as did Jeff Garcia, Trent Edwards, Brodie Croyle, and Chase Clement.

Clemens already knows the Texans plays in a way. Both the Houston Texans and the Washington Redskins have similar calls.

Prior to the start of the season, Clemens was in training camp with the Redskins. He was later released, but was able to learn from Mike Shanahan, the Redskins head coach.

Shanahan is Kubiak’s former mentor.

“he knows our terminology,” said Kubiak. “I liked his workout, to be honest, of all the guys we brought in. I think he can catch up very quickly.”
