An official announcement is expected later today. He was the Illinois head coach for seven seasons.

Zook was 34-51 at the school, including an 18-38 Big Ten mark. This year, the team started 6-0, then finished with six straight losses, including a 27-7 loss at Minnesota on Saturday.

The highlight of his coaching tenure at Illinois came when he took the Illini to the 2008 Rose Bowl, before losing to Southern California. It was Illinois first Rose Bowl since 1983.

There is a chance the team could still go to a bowl game. Last year, the Illini beat Baylor in the Texas Bowl.

If they were able to make it to a bowl game, it would be their first back-to-back bowl games in nearly two decades. The last time this happened was in 1991 and 1992.
