The New England Patriots offensive coordinator will interview for the Penn State head coaching position. The interview is a significant step from Penn State’s interest in O’Brien.

Over the weekend, he was signed, sealed, and delivered as the next head coach. But his agent came out to say that those reports were off base and that his client’s future is at the NFL level.

He is the third NFL assistant coach to interview for the position. He joins Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements and San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Roman, like O’Brien, is a finalist for the Nittany Lions job. But, it is unclear when Penn State will name a permanent successor to Joe Paterno.
