He comes to University Park, Pennsylvania after serving as the New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator. Despite accepting the Nittany Lions job, O’Brien will continue his role with the Patriots once this news becomes official.

Then, once the Patriots season concludes, he will then head to Pennsylvania.

In his first season as the Patriots offensive coordinator, he has turned tight end Rob Gronkowski into a rising star. He has also been able to take advantage of the mismatches with Wes Welker, Gronkowski, and Aaron Hernandez.

He knows that this will be a rebuilding situation. Yet, he was able to accept the job.

O’Brien will have to gain the trust of the entire community in wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal. The Nittany Lions finished the 2011 season with a 9-4 record.
