The Atlanta Falcons are a day into their off-season, and have already lost a member of their coaching staff.

Falcons Defensive Coordinator Brian VanGorder has accepted a position at the University of Auburn to be their Defensive Coordinator. After back-to-back playoff collapses, VanGorder was rumored to lose his job.

He was an obvious candidate to be the scapegoat for the losses. Yet, he was working under defensive-minded head coach Mike Smith.

He spent four years as the Falcons Defensive Coordinator after coaching the team’s linebackers in 2007. He has an extensive college coaching experience, and was last a college coach in 2006 when he was Georgia Southern head coach.
