New Penn State Nittany Lions head coach Bill O’Brien has hired his second assistant coach. At this introductory press conference, he announced that Larry Johnson Sr will be staying on the staff.
Now, he has added Tennessee Titans assistant coach Charles London to the staff. London will be joining Penn State as the running backs coach.
London and O’Brien have worked together before. They were both a member of the Duke Blue Devils staff in 2005 and 2006.

“Our mindset is we know there will be challenges, but a lot of the guys that were there had nothing to do with the scandal and it is a shame the university has been tarnished in that way,’’ London told the Tennessean. “But we are going to do our best to try and restore the name of Penn State football. I really had no reservations about going. I believe in Coach O’Brien, and that made it easy for me.”
An official announcement by Penn State of London’s hiring is expected by Wednesday. London spent one season as an offensive assistant with the Titans in 2011.
He did not coach in the league in 2010 as he served that season as a scout with the Philadelphia Eagles. Before being hired by the Eagles, his first job in the league was with the Chicago Bears.
He was their offensive quality control coach from 2007 through 2009. He was last a running backs coach with the Blue Devils during the 2006 season.

London and O’Brien’s tenure overlapped during the 2005 and 2006 seasons when O’Brien served as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Silas Redd led the Nittany Lions with 244 carries for 1,241 yards. He also had seven touchdowns in 13 games.
At this time, it is not clear if Reed will return to the program due to the scandal that has rocked the program.
