The Washington Nationals have added to their starting rotation with their newest addition.
The Nationals have signed free agent pitcher Edwin Jackson. His contract, depending a physical, will be for one-year, $10 million.
He is expected to be the fourth starter in the starting rotation. Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmerman, and newly-acquired Gio Gonzalez are expected to pitch in front of Jackson.
John Lannan, Chien-Ming Wang, and Ross Detwiler are expected to battle for the fifth and final spot in the rotation.
Jackson had a 12-9 record with a 3.79 ERA last year with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals were his fourth team in four years – Tampa Bay Rays in 2008, Detroit Tigers in 2009, Chicago White Sox in 2010, and the Cardinals last year.
He maybe play for a sixth team since 2008 depending on the Nationals success this season. If the team struggles, he could be dealt for prospects.
