Chad Pennington is expected to retire.

Pennington worked as a commentator for Fox Sports’ NFL coverage. He tore his ACL in an off-season basketball game, forcing him to sit out all of last season.

He is believed to be healthy from his surgeries on his shoulder and knee by training camp. Pennington would like to go into the coaching field, but is expected to stay in the broadcasting booth for the 2012 season.

“It doesn’t make sense for me to come back and try to play,” said Pennington. “I don’t want to look a coach in the eye and say, ‘You can count on me,’ and then I go out there and [something happens] to us like it did in 2010 and he can’t count on my body.”
