Pavel Kubina flies into Philadelphia to join the Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired another defenseman. This time around, the Flyers picked up veteran defender Pavel Kubina from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Bolts received a second pick in 2012 or 2013, a fourth-round pick in 2013, and prospect Jon Kalinski.

Kubina missed Saturday night’s game because the team held him out of the lineup. This also happened earlier this week, as the team was shopping him and it was thought a deal was done at that time.

He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He is in the final year of a two-year contract.

He has three goals and 11 assists this season in 52 games.

On Thursday, the Flyers swapped draft picks to the Dallas Stars for defender Nicklas Grossman.

Kubina played a year-and-a-half with the Lightning in his second stint with the team before this trade. He played the first eight years of his career with Tampa Bay.

He had 72 goals and 171 assists for 243 points in 662 games in the Bay.

He has also played three years with the Toronto Maple Leafs and a season with the Atlanta Thrashers. He had 32 goals and 69 assists for 101 points in 215 games in Toronto.

With the Thrashers, he had six goals and 32 assists for 38 points in 76 games.
