The Minnesota Vikings already know who they will be selecting with the No. 3 overall pick.
The Vikings will select University of Southern California left tackle Matt Kalil with the third pick. Kalil is regarded as the top offensive tackle in the draft.
It would be a perfect fit for the Vikings, as they need to upgrade their pass protection. Kalil immediately be an upgrade over current tackles Patrick Brown, Charlie Johnson, and DeMarcus Love.
Kalil would give the Vikings an immediate starter with Phil Loadholt starting at right tackle. The Vikings need to better protect last year’s first round pick Christian Ponder.
He is 6-foot-7 and 306 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.99 seconds, the second-fastest forty-yard dash by an offensive lineman at this year’s Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Only Oklahoma offensive tackle Donald Stephenson had a better 40-time than Kalil at 4.94 seconds.
