Former Maine Black Bears defensive coordinator Joe Rossi is expected to join the Rutgers Scarlet Knights coaching staff. An official announcement has not come from the school yet.
Rossi has been the Black Bears defensive coordinator since the 2009 season. He has been with the Black Bears since 2007 when he was hired as their special teams coach and defensive backs coach.
Flood finds his new coach after his former special teams coach Phil Galiano departed the school. Galiano left to accept a job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where former Scarlet Knights head coach Greg Schiano is the head coach.

Before accepting a job at Maine, Rossi previously worked at Theil College in Greenville, Pennsylvania. He coached at the school from 2001 through 2006.
Rutgers went 9-4 during the 2011 season under Schiano before his departure. Flood’s first game coaching the Scarlet Knights will be in several months, as they are on the road to begin the season.

They will travel to face the Tulane Green Wave at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 1st, 2012. Rutgers won the last game of the Schiano era in a 27-13 win over the Iowa State Cyclones in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium in New York, New York.
