John Cooper is expected to become the new Miami (Ohio) men’s basketball head coach.
Cooper is supposed to be formally introduced at a news conference on Monday. Athletic Director Brad Bates announced the hiring Friday night.
He was the Tennessee State head coach for the past three seasons. His team went 20-13 last season, which was the school’s first winning season since the 1995-96 season.
It was also the Tigers’ first 20-win season in 32-years. The biggest win of the season came when they beat then-ranked No. 7 Murray State, 72-68, on February 9th.
He replaces Charlie Coles, who retires after the season. Cooper has also served as an assistant coach at Auburn, Oregon, South Carolina, and Fayetteville State.
