Richard Pitino to take over the FIU men’s basketball program

Richard Pitino will be named the new Florida International men’s basketball head coach.

Pitino has been serving on his father’s steps at Louisville. He will replace Isiah Thomas, the Basketball Hall of Famer, who was fired after three seasons.

Pitino helped Louisville to the Final Four, before losing to eventual national champion, Kentucky.

He began his coaching career in 2004 and has been an assistant coach at Florida, Duquesne, Northeastern, and the College of Charleston. This will be his first head coachign experience.

He graduated from Providence College.
