SMU hires veteran coach Larry Brown to run their men’s basketball team

Larry Brown has returned to the coaching ranks after a short hiatus.

Brown has been hired by Southern Methodist University, as their new men’s basketball head coach. This is his first college coaching job since 1988.

He last coached in the college ranks with Kansas. He was the Kansas head coach from 1983 to 1988, and won the NCAA National Championship with Kansas in 1988. After that, he’s spent the past two decades in the NBA.

He last coached in 2010 with the Charlotte Bobcats. He became the Bobcats head coach on April 29th, 2008 and was fired on December 22nd, 2010.

SMU will be moving from Conference USA to the Big East Conference after next season. SMU has not appeared in an NCAA tournament game since 1988.
