Larry Bird has decided to leave the Indiana Pacers.

The Indiana Pacers President has been in his current position since 2003. He is expected to meet with owner Herb Simon today to talk about leaving.

Bird is currently dealing with some health issues. Yet, he is the reigning 2011-2012 NBA Executive of the Year.

The Pacers are expected to bring back Donnie Walsh to help with Bird’s departure. Walsh spent 24 years with the Pacers, before leaving for the New York Knicks in 2008 and sitting out last year.

Walsh will help groom Kevin Pritchard to take over the General Manager role. Pritchard will be responsible for making player personnel moves, which Bird previously made.

“(I want to talk to Simon about) the direction of the team, what kind of job he thinks we’re doing, if there’s anything he sees that we should be doing better,” said Bird on May 30th. “Just a number of questions. I’ve got a lot of them written down to ask him, and hopefully we can get the answers we like and move on.”
