Rocks sweep Salem for a four game winning streak

Wilmington, DE – The Wilmington Blue Rocks improved to 15-15 overall in the second half.

With the win, they improved to 44-56 overall. On the other hand, the loss dropped the Salem Red Sox to 51-48 overall and 10-20 in the second half.

The Blue Rocks defeated the Red Sox 4-3 yesterday afternoon.

Brooks Pounders improved to 3-3 on the season for the Blue Rocks after pitching 5 2/3 innings. Miguel Celestino received the loss for the Red Sox and dropped to 6-6 on the season.

In the 8th, the Red Sox nearly put a rally together when Sean Coyle walked with bases loaded. Xander Boegarts scored, but the rally ended after Adalberto Ibarra struck out with two outs.

In the bottom of the 4th, Bogaerts doubles and was immediately followed by a double by Michael Almanzar. After Almanzar’s double to right fielder Lane Adams, Bogaerts scored.

In the top of the 4th, the Blue Rocks scored. Orlando Calixte singled to open the inning, then scored after a double by Cheslor Cuthbert. Cuthbert scored on Matt Field’s 2-run home run.

In the bottom of the 3rd, the Red Sox had Sean Coyle get hit by a pitch. He immediately stole second base and was put on third base after Ibarra grounded out. Felix Sanchez singled in Coyle.

In the top of the 1st, Whit Merrifield hit his 8th home run of the season for the Blue Rocks.

The Rocks will host the Frederick Keys in a 4 game set Monday, July 23 to Thursday, July 26 night games will be at 7:05 pm while Wednesday’s game July 25th will be a 12:05 pm Camp Day Special.
