Mike Davis has been hired at Texas Southern.
The former Indiana and Alabama-Birmingham head coach was hired on an interim basis. He took over for Tony Harvey, who decided to resign from his position over personal reasons last month.
David was fired in March from UAB after six seasons coaching there. He had a 122-73 record at UAB, but was 15-16 this past season.
He helped guide the franchise to the 2011 NCAA Tournament, and also took the Blazers to three straight NIT appearances.
He also served a six-year span at Indiana. He was 115-79 at the school, and led the Hoosiers to the 2002 NCAA Championship.
“Coach Davis brings with him an impressive resume both on and off the court as clearly shown by the success his student-athletes have achieved academically and athletically,” said Texas Southern athletic director Dr. Charles McClelland. “We’re elated to be able to bring someone with his credentials to lead our program next season.”
