The Portland Timbers signed midfielder Ian Hogg. He will be added to the team once he receives his P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate.
The team said financial terms were not disclosed. We also do not know the length of his contract at press time.

Hogg signed with the Timbers after the team traded defender Mike Chabala to the D.C. United. In exchange, the Timbers received a natural first-round draft pick in the 2014 MLS Supplemental Draft.

“Ian is a young, talented left back with good athleticism and a desire to succeed,” Timbers head coach Gavin Wilkinson said. “We have signed him through the remainder of the season and look forward to closely evaluating him as we move to next season.”
This summer, Hogg played for his native New Zealand in the 2012 London Olympics. He played in three group stage games for the “Oly Whites.”
Before playing for his native country in the Olympics, Hogg played for Auckland City, where he played from 2009 through 2012. He scored five goals in 73 appearances.
In 2009, Hogg also played for Hawke’s Bay United, where he played in eight games. He also played seven games for Waitakere United in 2008.

From 2006 through 2008, Hoff played for Hawke’s Bay United when he played in 31 games. He also scored one goal during this time.
This is Hogg’s first venture in Major League Soccer.
